About TASK
The Traditional Association of Shotokan Karate (TASK) was formed in 1983, with Hanshi van Weenen, then 4th Dan, as its Chief Instructor. Prior to this, he had been a senior instructor with the English Shotokan Karate Association (ESKA).
The Association Hombu (main training hall) was located at the Bunyan Centre in Bedford for the past 30 years. In 2011 it moved to Flitwick Leisure Centre in Bedfordshire.
Hanshi van Weenen (Hanshi meaning Exemplary Instructor) now holds the rank of 9th Dan and teaches regularly at TASK’s Hombu. The beginners class is as popular as ever and runs from 6.15pm – 7.15pm every Monday and 6pm – 7pm every Thursday, where anyone interested in learning Karate will be given a warm welcome by Hanshi and his senior black belts.
